VMworld 2017 Europe – Day 3

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in VMworld

Last day at VMworld! Wow, it has been some crazy days, quite tried now. After a good nights sleep I was up early and left the hotel at 8, to get to VMworld. I only had two session planed before heading home again. One session was with my colleague Heino Skov, around how to monitor and operate a multi cloud environment. The other were an VMware Cloud On AWS architectural session.   Let me start with the first one. Besides Heino, Marteinn Sigurdsson and Ryan Fay. Heino talked about how he is using tools like vRops and Log Insight, both […]

VMworld 2017 Europe – Day 2

After the disappointing key note  the day before, I did not rush to get to VMworld or the general session. My employer Proact were hosting an lunch event later that day and I had a brief 15 min presentation on vRNI and how Proact use it with customers and why you need this form of visibility into your NSX and physical network environment. So I instead stay in my hotel room preparing for the presentation and took a cab directly to the restaurant hosting the lunch event. The venue for this event was great just up a mountain road overlooking […]

VMworld 2017 Europe – Day 1

This is day one – I can only feel a slight disappointment, that there were no major announcement. Let me start by recapping the day… I started in VMVillage where I found a coach and moved it in front of on of the big screens. Comfortably watching the general session, but what a disappointment, a copy of US general session and no major announcements. HCX a new product was announced, I am very much looking forward to seeing how this shapes up and how it stacks up against Zerto’s offering. It looks very much like a Zerto clone, but lets […]

We with all the talking and alcohol consumption, I forgot to eat enough 🙁 Today was tough! I got a little later than expected to the conference center. Checked in which went fast and walked down to Hall 8. On the way I met numerous people, had a chat with a few of them, making me late for the session is was aiming for, before finally bouncing into my colleague Heino Skov. Being late and all I joined him and went back to the VMvillage where we went hunting for power outlets. Note to VMware, we are not in the […]

As I’m writing this I’m still at home. Haven’t finished packing. Well I have emptied my pockets in my jacket and cleaned out in my l aptop bag, but the suite case is still 100% empty. Just put the kids to bed and gonna go downstairs to have dinner with my wife. I’m flying in tomorrow. There will be plenty of time to pack tonight. Touch down in BCN is around 14:00, before it all goes down. I’m hoping to have time to write a blog post everyday during VMworld. Only time will tell if I actually pulls this of […]

Using Log Insight query API with Powershell

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Log Insight

Log Insight is such an underrated tool. As a consultant I use it all the time, it makes it simple and fast to find issues and solutions. Frankly speaking any VMware shop not running Log Insight is letting there company down. There is multiple ways to get insight out of Log Insight. You can use the GUI; setup webhooks for third party intergration; get it to send you an email; send alerts to vRops or use the Log Insight API. The API is split into two, an ingestion API and a query API. Today I am going to show you […]

In this next part of the serie. I am going to dig into the E300-8D’s technical specifications, show case its good and bad sides and talk about noise and power consumption. A closer look at E300-8D from the outside Before I dig in deep, let me […]

The NUC killer: SuperMicro SuperServer E300-8D

TOC Part 1: The NUC killer: SuperMicro SuperServer E300-8D Part 2: SuperMicro SuperServer E300-8D deep dive   I bought two SuperMicro SuperServer E300-8D a few months ago and they only seems to get better as I get to know them better. The SuperMicro SuperServer E300-8D is replacing my old lab, which was excessively small and inadequate. It was based on Dell PCs, which was limited to only 8GB of memory. With 8GB of memory, there is not much I can get up and running in a state where I was happy with it. Therefore, I was looking for something else. […]
