Conditional DNS Forwarding on USG

Posted 3 CommentsPosted in Ubiquiti

I have a simple network and lab setup and I really do not want to make it too complicated. DNS is controlled by a Ubiquiti USG; The same a the default gateway. Classic set up so far. When running a homelab I need to have some form of DNS server I can control and add DNS records to. The USG does to day not support that role, hopefully in the future it will, but for now I need another solution. As I would like my lab to mimic a enterprise setup I need Active Directory for authentication. So it makes […]

Custom DDNS on Ubiquiti USG

Posted 2 CommentsPosted in Hardware, Script

Been using Ubiquiti in the lab for more than a year now. Really like this simplicity of operations, but at the same time I have full access to the linux alike OS underneath. This gives you the possibility to run scripts and other tasks. Which brings me to what this blog post is all about. I have an ISP which charges extra for having a static IP address and me being lazy and cheap (Also it would be more than the monthly cap I have from work), I have not “upgraded” to a static IP. So I thought why not […]

Using Ubiquiti AC Pro as a wireless bridge

It has been quite some time since my last blog post, lots of reasons for that. One being the family and I took six weeks off to go travelling around Thailand. My first visit to Thailand and I must said it was wonderful. I only wished I had more time each place we stayed. There was so much to see and do. Also it was a lot of fun for the kids, which are now three and five years old. We got to snorkel, not as much as I have hoped though. We bought full face masks, and what a […]

TOC Part 1: The NUC killer: SuperMicro SuperServer E300-8D Part 2: SuperMicro SuperServer E300-8D deep dive Part 3: SuperMicro SuperServer E300-8D 2 years later   I bought two SuperMicro SuperServer E300-8D a few months ago and they only seems to get better as I get to know them better. The SuperMicro SuperServer E300-8D is replacing my old lab, which was excessively small and inadequate. It was based on Dell PCs, which was limited to only 8GB of memory. With 8GB of memory, there is not much I can get up and running in a state where I was happy with […]

Using Ubiquiti Networks in the home and lab

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Uncategorized

I first deployed Ubiquiti networks (Ubnt) equipment around twelve month ago. The Cisco SMB access point I had bought, never really lived up to my expectations, and I had now gotten so fed up with it that a new solution was needed. Looking around people was talking and recommending Ubiquiti’s access points. At the time the Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC Pro has not been released yet. So I waited some time for it to come in stores and bought two at the same time. This was only the beginning after that success, two other Ubiquiti product has entered my home and […]
