Log Insight 4.3 has just been released. I guess it is a good time to talk about upgrading and what path to follow and what is the Log Insight upgrade path. I am only gonna focus on Log Insight 3.x or newer. Basically if you are not running Log Insight 3.x or newer, you really should upgrade asap. There is now reason to wait any longer. You are just making it worse by waiting!
Log Insight upgrade path
Upgrading Log Insight is quite simple. Log Insight is a incremental update process. Meaning you can not skip an update. If you fall behind the Log Insight update cycle, you will have to through all the updates to get up to speed. There is no way to cheat.
Log Insight incremental updates since 3.0 and all the way up till 4.3.
Log Insight 3.0 -> 3.3 -> 3.6 -> 4.0 -> 4.3
I do not think that it is that hard to keep up. Log Insight is released every six month or so. Unlike many other products Log Insight do not come with a lot of bugs, which means you will not have to wait for update 1. It just works and upgrades run smooth every time and may I add, it is fast. So there is really no excuse for not upgrading right away. I’m not even thinking about all the nice new features they add in, in every release cycle.
Though this could also be a good reason. Some content packs simply require a minimum supported version of Log Insight before you can upgrade the content pack. New features are added all the time and what is already there gets enhancements.
So whether you have fallen behind or not, it is time to start your download engines and get up to date with Log Insight.
It is not that hard – I just did a Log Insight 3.3 till 4.0 upgrade. Which is soon going to be a 4.3 upgrade… More installations will follow swiftly.
I was sitting on 3.6 (now on 4.0 after thinking I would have to start from scratch). I will be going to 4.3 too.
